Wednesday evening 5km fun run/walk
Waitakere Triathlon & Multisport Club
Waitakere Triathlon & Multisport Club was founded in 1992 buy a few multiport enthusiasts who saw a need for a multisport club in West Auckland. The club grew quickly and as with many sports clubs, has had its fair share of ups and downs since then.
The club has always had a community focus, and since 2005 has been running a public 5km fun run/walk every Wednesday evening, rain or shine - except for short break over the Christmas/New Year period. This regular event has a loyal following and has always been free, and that is not going to change. The run/walk meets at the Waitakere City Rugby and Athletic Club rooms (under the Trust Arena, overlooking the athletic track) for a 6:15pm start.
WTMC has also been involved with a number of annual events over the years, both multisport events and events that involve only one of the three disciplines. But we have never had one that we could claim as ours.
Until now. Run Out West is brought to you by the Waitakere Triathlon & Multisport Club, the original (and of course, the longest running) West Auckland multisport club. We are planning this to be an annual event, and are looking to expand it to include 5km, 10km, 16km and half marathon distances as well as shorter distances for kids only, in 2017, which also happens to be the club’s 25th anniversary year. Now that would be a fitting way to celebrate 25 years!
So come join us as we start on this new adventure of the club’s. If you don’t enter and participate in this, the inaugural Run Out West event, you will never be able to be one of the people that can honestly claim to have raced in every Run Out West event.
A 10km run/walk for anyone
Billed as a "Fun Run", the event is primarily for fun, but entrants will wear electronic transponders so that their time for the event is accurately captured, and will be posted to the website shortly after the event wraps up for the day.
Every finisher, run or walk, receives a finisher's medal, and there will be trophies for the first three males and females for each category - 13-15 years, 16-18 years, 19+ (run only sorry). Eighteen trophies in total!
